Why I'm Running For Mayor of Sioux Falls

real-world experience and leadership

Sioux Falls is a city I love deeply — it’s where I’ve built my home, raised my family, and dedicated years of public service. I’m running for mayor because I believe Sioux Falls is at a crossroads. With the right leadership, we can seize this moment to build a safer, stronger, smarter, and more connected city for everyone.

As our city grows, so do the challenges and opportunities. We face rising demands on housing, infrastructure, and public safety. We need thoughtful investment in our neighborhoods, support for working families and small businesses, and a clear strategy for managing growth while preserving the character that makes Sioux Falls feel like home.

With over a decade of experience in both city government and executive leadership, I bring a record of results, collaboration, and transparency. I understand how City Hall works — and more importantly, how it can work better for the people it serves. I’ve built partnerships across sectors, listened to diverse perspectives, and fought for policies that put people first.

This campaign is about all of Sioux Falls. It’s about building a city where opportunity is within reach for all. Where we lead with common sense and compassion. Where we don’t just grow, but grow wisely — with integrity, innovation, and heart.

I’m running because I believe in Sioux Falls. I believe in what we’ve accomplished — and I believe in what we can become. Together, let’s shape a future we’re proud to hand off to the next generation.

About Christine

A Lifetime of Service and Commitment

Christine Erickson is a respected business executive and civic leader based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Born in Rapid City and raised in a working-class family, her values were shaped by hard work, service, and integrity — principles she continues to carry into every facet of her professional and public life.

Christine’s early exposure to service came naturally as her father served in the U.S. Army and her mother worked in a local school cafeteria. These roots laid the foundation for her deep commitment to community.  She earned an associate degree in Business Administration from National American University and a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from the University of Sioux Falls.

She always had an interest in protecting taxpayers, having worked for the South Dakota Department of Revenue, where she was recognized as “Revenue Agent of the Year” for her excellence and accountability. In 2012, Christine was elected to the South Dakota House of Representatives for District 11, and in 2014, transitioned to serve as an at-large member of the Sioux Falls City Council. Over her eight-year tenure, she built a reputation for pragmatic leadership, transparency, and advocating for policies that reflected common sense and long-term impact.

In 2021, Christine became President of both the South Dakota Auto Dealers Association and the South Dakota Trucking Association — two integral industries to the state and the nation. Under her leadership, these organizations have become more modernized, tech-driven, and efficient in serving their members and South Dakota’s economic growth.

Christine brings a clear leadership philosophy: "Will it work? Will it make things better?" She believes the people of Sioux Falls deserve real results — not political wins and losses, but measurable improvements that make life better for families, businesses, and neighborhoods.

Christine is engaged to Jason Wilson, a veteran of the United States Marine Corps who served as part of the security detail for President George H.W. Bush at HMX-1 and is currently an executive in the automotive industry.  She is the proud mother of three sons who keep her on her toes. Her eldest, Anthony attends South Dakota State University, where he is studying business and is a kicker for the SDSU football team. Braylon is a junior at Jefferson High School, and enjoys playing football, basketball, and hitting the golf course with his friends. Charlie will begin his freshman year at Jefferson High School, where he’ll play football and can almost always be found on a basketball court. All three boys share a love of sports and a quick wit — keeping their mom constantly entertained with their sense of humor.

Christine Erickson’s multifaceted career — spanning government, business, and community advocacy — exemplifies her deep commitment to service, leadership, and the future of Sioux Falls. She continues to be a trusted and dynamic voice for progress across South Dakota.

I'm running to build on our city's incredible strength and community spirit.

I want our kids to grow up in a safe, forward-thinking community.

Good leadership means working with all sides to find real, workable solutions.

A Vision For Sioux Falls

LEADERSHIP THAT LISTENS, GUIDES AND DELIVERS

Our city is growing — and with that growth comes real challenges that require strong, experienced leadership. We need a mayor who doesn’t wait for permission to lead, but brings her own chair to the table — someone who builds bridges with state, county, and neighboring communities to get things done.

This campaign belongs to Sioux Falls and to everyone who calls it home. Over the coming months, we’ll host a series of community feedback sessions across the city where we’ll have a chance to hear directly from those impacted and discuss solutions that can actually make a difference. Because in Sioux Falls, we are stronger together.

And with every policy, every program, every dollar spent, we’ll ask two simple but essential questions:

Will it work? And will it make things better?

We are at a crossroads in Sioux Falls. Will we invest in the basics that will ensure success for decades or will we take our eye off the ball and focus on programs and initiatives that are unnecessary and cost taxpayers money.

My focus will be on ensuring Sioux Falls is the safest community and that we are smart about our continued growth.

01
Safe Sioux Falls
A safe city is a strong city — and we must stay ahead of rising challenges around crime, mental health, and emergency response. With a new state prison being proposed in Sioux Falls, we need a mayor who’s not afraid to roll up her sleeves and lead on protecting people and criminal justice reform.

Sioux Falls must ensure our police and emergency responders are at full capacity and have the resources needed to do their job. Those who serve our community in that capacity put their life on the line every day and it’s essential they have what they need to do their jobs and feel supported throughout the community.

We must also focus on improving outcomes for those re-entering society following incarceration. I’ll prioritize strategic investments in public safety, ensure our first responders have the tools and training they need, and expand community-based partnerships to build trust between law enforcement and residents — including focused work on mental health response, crime prevention, and youth engagement.
02
Smart Community Growth for Sioux Falls
Sioux Falls is one of the fastest-growing cities in the region — but growth without vision leads to sprawl, infrastructure strain, and unaffordable living costs, impacting housing and property taxes most.

As mayor, I’ll focus on balanced, strategic development that keeps our city livable for families, seniors, and young professionals alike. That means:

  • Supporting affordable housing initiatives
  • Updating outdated zoning policies
  • Investing in smart infrastructure
  • Encouraging walkable, vibrant neighborhoods through mixed-use development

  • Growth is inevitable — but how we grow will define Sioux Falls for generations.
    03
Smart Economic Growth for Sioux Falls
Sioux Falls deserves a city government that’s responsive, transparent, and built for the future. At the same time, we must be a city where local businesses can grow, and families can thrive. I bring real-world experience leading large organizations and delivering meaningful results. As mayor, I will:

    • Implement modern, tech-forward solutions in City Hall
    • Cut unnecessary red tape
    • Support job creation in both established industries and emerging sectors
    • Promote innovation and entrepreneurship

We’ll build a city that works — for everyone who calls Sioux Falls home.
